Melbourne Storm pay the ultimate price for cheating
Not a huge fan of NRL anyway, but tonight’s breaking scandal - the revelation that the Melbourne Storm have been guilty of massive salary cap breaches over the past few years has resulted in probably the most severe penalty I’ve ever seen handed down to a professional sports team:
"The Storm have been stripped of their premierships in 2007 and 2009, three minor premierships and their eight competition points this season. They will not be able to accrue any more points this season, have been fined $500,000 and must pay back $1.1 million in prize money."
This basically means the team have nothing to play for this season, and anything they had achieved in the past few successful seasons has been all for naught.
Kinda makes the NRL competition look more like more of a joke than it ever has before…
